President Jokowi to stay again in Nusantara in September 2024

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is scheduled to spend more time in Nusantara, Indonesia’s new capital, in September 2024 for work-related purposes. The Presidential Secretariat, led by Chief Heru Budi Hartono, confirmed that Jokowi’s stay will be based on his presidential schedule, which includes multiple working visits.

The Secretariat is coordinating with the State Secretariat Ministry, the Cabinet Secretariat, and the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry to facilitate this arrangement. Despite his upcoming stay, there are no plans for Jokowi to move his office permanently to Nusantara, and it remains unclear whether President-elect and Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto will also relocate his office to the new capital.

The decision for Jokowi’s extended stay is not related to the ongoing protests in Jakarta regarding the parliament’s attempts to override Constitutional Court rulings on regional leaders’ election laws. Jokowi had previously worked from Nusantara on July 29, 2024, and participated in the Independence Day ceremony both in Nusantara and Jakarta on August 17, 2024.

In September 2024, Indonesian President Joko Widodo (commonly known as Jokowi) is expected to spend time in Nusantara, the country’s new capital city. This move is part of the broader strategy to establish Nusantara as the nation’s administrative and political center, shifting from Jakarta. Jokowi’s extended stay in Nusantara highlights his commitment to the development and successful transition of the capital city.

Nusantara, located on the island of Borneo, is being developed to alleviate the pressures of overpopulation and environmental issues facing Jakarta. By spending more time there, Jokowi aims to oversee the progress of infrastructure projects, engage with local stakeholders, and ensure the city’s development aligns with national goals.

This decision underscores the significance of the capital relocation project, which is a major initiative in Jokowi’s presidency, aiming to balance regional development and address the challenges faced by Jakarta.
