Indonesia Aims to Boost Export Value of Sustainable Forest Products

The Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry is actively working to increase the export value of sustainably produced forest products. Ristianto Pribadi, the ministry’s Director of Forest Product Processing and Marketing Development, announced these initiatives during the International Furniture Manufacturing Components Exhibition (IFMAC) and the International Woodworking Machinery Exhibition (WOODMAC) in Jakarta.

Pribadi emphasized that the strategy not only targets boosting exports but also enhancing product value in the domestic market through improved downstream processing of forest products. He highlighted the importance of sustainable forest management as a national priority, ensuring forests can provide raw materials for wood products while maintaining ecological balance.

“The success of sustainable forest management relies on all stakeholders in the wood product supply chain,” he stated. Improving traceability, efficiency, and the preservation of raw material sources is crucial for this success.

With the growing global demand for sustainably produced goods, transparency and eco-friendly practices are becoming increasingly important. Pribadi pointed out that effective supply chain management is essential for monitoring the legal and sustainable sourcing of raw materials.

As of August, Indonesia’s forest product exports reached approximately $8.22 billion, reflecting the potential in this sector. He noted that events like IFMAC-WOODMAC offer valuable opportunities to explore technology and innovation that strengthen the connection between sustainable forestry and the wood processing industry.

“The latest industrial machines and equipment will improve raw material efficiency, promote the use of environmentally friendly materials, reduce waste, and help address climate change challenges,” he added.
