Indonesian FM Responds to Death of Hezbollah Leader

Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi addressed the recent death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut during her discussions with fellow foreign ministers of OIC member states at the 79th UN General Assembly in New York.

She emphasized the escalating tensions in Lebanon, expressing concerns about the potential for the situation to mirror the conflicts in Gaza. Retno highlighted the need for urgent action to prevent Lebanon from becoming the “new Gaza,” calling on the UN Security Council to take decisive steps to halt the violence.

She pointed out that Indonesia’s involvement includes approximately 1,200 troops deployed to the UNIFIL peacekeeping force, underscoring the direct impact of the situation on Indonesian personnel. The minister reiterated the collective responsibility of the international community to address these crises and uphold peace in the region.
