Polres Metro Jakarta Barat has committed to increasing patrols to prevent street fights (tawuran) following the arrest of five teenagers who were caught attempting to engage in a brawl with sharp weapons (sajam) in the Wijaya Kusuma area, Grogol Petamburan, on Thursday afternoon, November 21.
AKBP M Hari Agung Julianto, Head of the Samapta Unit of the Jakarta Barat Police, stated that the police had received a report from local residents about a group of teenagers suspected of preparing for a street fight while carrying sharp weapons. In response, the police swiftly moved to the location to prevent any potential clashes between student groups.
Upon arriving, the police found a group of teenagers matching the description from the report. After a brief pursuit, the police managed to apprehend five individuals and seize two sickles (celurit) that they were believed to have intended to use in the fight.
The five teenagers, along with the seized weapons, were immediately taken to the Grogol Petamburan Police Station for further processing. Agung emphasized that while the police take firm action, they also aim to educate the youth involved to prevent future involvement in criminal activities.
The police also expressed appreciation for the quick response from the community, which helped prevent a potential public safety disturbance. Agung assured that the police will continue to strengthen patrol efforts to curb similar incidents in the future and maintain peace in the West Jakarta area.
