Flick Confirms Gavi Will Join Squad for Sevilla Match

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick announced that Gavi will be included in the squad for the La Liga match against Sevilla on Sunday, October 20. Gavi has been sidelined for an extended period due to a knee injury he sustained while representing the Spanish national team in November 2023, which also caused him to miss the Euro 2024 tournament this summer.

“For Gavi, this is the next step, an important step. All the coaches and the entire club are excited about this development, and he will be on the bench,” Flick said during a press conference, as reported on Barcelona’s official website.

The return of Gavi is set to boost Barcelona’s morale, especially alongside Dani Olmo and Fermin Lopez, who have also recovered from their injuries. Flick confirmed that Lamine Yamal is fit again after dealing with a hamstring issue. “Rest and some treatment have done him good, so thanks to the national team. He’s ready to play,” Flick added.

However, the coach noted concerns regarding Frenkie de Jong, who has recently returned from an ankle injury but felt discomfort during training, casting doubt on his availability for the upcoming match.

Barcelona will still be without several injured players, including Ronald Araujo, Ferran Torres, and Andreas Christensen. The team is hoping that the returning players will help strengthen their chances against Sevilla as they aim to secure crucial points in the league.
