Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, proposed three key green initiatives at the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) 2nd Ministerial Meeting in Jakarta to achieve net-zero emissions:
- Integrated Clean Energy System:
- Objective: Develop a cohesive clean energy infrastructure by enhancing regional electricity connectivity.
- Approach: Strengthen power networks to ensure a resilient and flexible clean energy system. Utilize Indonesia’s renewable resources to produce clean energy sources like hydrogen and ammonia.
- Clean Energy-Powered Transportation:
- Objective: Transition the transportation sector to eco-friendly fuels.
- Approach: Promote the use of sustainable fuels and develop necessary infrastructure to support this transition in both rural and urban areas.
- Energy Efficiency:
- Objective: Enhance energy efficiency across various sectors, with a focus on industrial activities.
- Approach: Implement emission standards, provide incentives, and develop technology to improve energy efficiency. This initiative aims to balance decarbonization with economic growth and energy resilience.
Hartarto emphasized the importance of collaboration among AZEC countries to exchange innovations and achieve decarbonization targets. AZEC, established by Indonesia and Japan, includes countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Australia.
