In a commemoration of Indonesia’s 79th Independence Day, Communication and Informatics Minister Budi Arie Setiadi emphasized the urgent need to eradicate online gambling. Addressing officials at the Ministry of Communication and Informatics in Jakarta, Setiadi highlighted the serious threat that online gambling poses to current and future generations.
“Online gambling is a significant challenge we face today. It’s crucial to combat this issue decisively and consistently across all ministry units,” Setiadi stated during the Independence Day ceremony. He stressed the importance of collaboration between the government, the community, and other stakeholders to raise awareness about the dangers of online gambling.
Setiadi urged all ministry staff to intensify efforts to eradicate online gambling and promote the “online gambling is fraud” campaign. He warned against the adverse impacts of online gambling on mental health, economic stability, and social conditions.
In his speech, Setiadi also acknowledged President Joko Widodo’s leadership, praising his efforts to build a solid foundation for Indonesia’s future. “I extend my highest respect to President Joko Widodo for his significant contributions towards the 2045 Golden Indonesia vision,” he remarked.
The Indonesian government has been actively working to address online gambling issues, including the establishment of the Online Gambling Eradication Task Force, officially launched by President Widodo on June 14, 2024. Minister Setiadi reported that from July 17, 2023, to July 30, 2024, the ministry had blocked 2,725,000 pieces of online gambling content.

The Minister’s address came in conjunction with the launch of a campaign against online gambling, urging all involved parties to take a proactive role in addressing this issue. He stressed that online gambling negatively impacts mental health, economic stability, and social well-being.
In his remarks, Setiadi also expressed admiration for President Joko Widodo, recognizing his leadership in advancing Indonesia’s development goals. “I offer my highest respect to President Joko Widodo for his role in laying a strong foundation for the vision of a Golden Indonesia by 2045,” Setiadi added.
The government has intensified efforts to combat online gambling through various initiatives, including the Online Gambling Eradication Task Force, which was established on June 14, 2024. According to Setiadi, the ministry has blocked 2,725,000 pieces of online gambling content from July 17, 2023, to July 30, 2024.
