Nusantara’s Ceremonial Plaza can accommodate 8,000 people: Minister

The Ceremonial Plaza in Nusantara can hold up to 8,000 people for Indonesia’s 79th Independence Day celebration. Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono highlighted the plaza’s capacity but noted challenges with connectivity and vehicle management. To address transportation issues, autonomous rail transit (ART) with four stops is being prepared for public use, with free trials for residents. This event will be the first Independence Day ceremony held in Indonesia’s new capital city, with President Joko Widodo presiding, while a parallel event in Jakarta will be chaired by Vice President Ma’ruf Amin.

Nusantara’s Ceremonial Plaza is a key feature of the new capital city’s Government Core Area, designed to host large public events like Indonesia’s Independence Day celebrations. The plaza’s capacity of 8,000 people underscores its role in fostering civic engagement in the new capital. Challenges such as connectivity and vehicle management are being addressed with planned infrastructure improvements, including autonomous rail transit (ART) stations to facilitate access. The celebration on August 17, 2024, marks the first time Indonesia’s new capital will host such a significant national event, reflecting its emerging importance.
