On Saturday, the 79th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia was celebrated with vibrant performances at the State Palace in Nusantara, East Kalimantan’s new capital city.

The event featured a rendition of the song “Puspa Warni,” composed by Guruh Soekarno Putra, the youngest son of Indonesia’s first president, Soekarno. This musical piece was brought to life by vocalists Mawar De Jongh, Novia Bachmid, and Olivia Pardede. The enthusiastic crowd, including several guests, joined in singing the song, adding to the festive atmosphere.

This dance involved art groups and studios from across East Kalimantan and featured an infantry battalion from Samarinda, the provincial capital. The performance successfully highlighted Indonesia’s cultural diversity and brought considerable energy to the celebrations.

The Independence Day ceremonies were held in two locations: Nusantara and Jakarta. President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) led the celebration in Nusantara, where a significant highlight was the raising of the replica of the Heirloom Red and White Flag for the first time in the new capital city. Meanwhile, Vice President Ma’ruf Amin conducted the ceremony at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta.

The theme of this year’s celebration, “New Nusantara, Advanced Indonesia,” underscored the nation’s transition period, embracing the new capital city and the government’s relocation.

In a nod to tradition, some officials attended the ceremony in traditional attire. President Jokowi wore traditional East Kalimantan clothing, while President-elect Prabowo Subianto was seen in a traditional outfit from East Java.
