A giant gold deposit has been discovered in Hunan Province, central China, with an estimated reserve of more than 1,000 tons of gold. The Hunan Provincial Geological Bureau announced this discovery on Thursday, November 21. Geological experts identified over 40 gold veins with a reserve of 300 tons of gold at a depth of up to 2,000 meters beneath the Wangu gold field in Pingjiang County.
At depths of up to 3,000 meters, the total gold reserve is expected to exceed 1,000 tons, valued at approximately 600 billion yuan (about 83 billion USD). Chen Rulin, an expert in ore exploration from the Hunan Provincial Geological Survey and Disaster Monitoring Institute, highlighted that many of the drilled rock cores showed significant amounts of gold, with 1 ton of ore at around 2,000 meters containing up to 138 grams of gold.
New technologies, such as 3D geological modeling, were employed in the exploration of the Wangu gold field, as noted by Liu Yongjun, the deputy head of the bureau. Additionally, gold was found during drilling in surrounding areas, revealing promising prospects for further discoveries in the region.
