Indonesia and IAEA Collaborate to Enhance Global Nuclear Energy Infrastructure

Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is collaborating with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to strengthen global nuclear energy infrastructure. This partnership recently featured a workshop titled “Interregional Workshop on Self-Evaluation of Infrastructure Development for New Nuclear Power Programs,” held in Jakarta from September 23 to 27, 2024, with 30 representatives from 21 IAEA member countries participating.

BRIN’s deputy for development policy, Mego Pinandito, highlighted that this collaboration enables Indonesia to bolster its own nuclear energy program while serving as a facilitator for other nations interested in nuclear development. He emphasized the importance of preparing economic, technological, human resource, and safety aspects to ensure successful implementation of nuclear initiatives.

Utilizing the IAEA’s Milestone Approach, BRIN is focused on laying down a comprehensive plan for nuclear energy infrastructure, aligning with Indonesia’s National Energy Policy goals. The workshop aimed to facilitate knowledge exchange and learn from countries with existing nuclear power plants, helping Indonesia navigate potential challenges and benefits associated with nuclear energy deployment.
