Successful Trials Conducted at Nusantara Airport by Indonesian Air Force

On September 14, 15, and 20, three aircraft from the Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) conducted successful runway trials at Nusantara Airport in East Kalimantan. The trials, which involved both landing and takeoff procedures, were confirmed by Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal M. Tonny Harjono, who stated that the tests went smoothly.

Nusantara Airport features a runway measuring 2,200 meters by 30 meters, with a runway shoulder of 7.5 meters and a taxiway of 153 meters by 23 meters. The runway is constructed from high-quality asphalt, designed to allow aircraft to stop safely within the specified distance.

Prior to the trials, extensive surveys and coordination efforts were undertaken to ensure the airport’s readiness. “We conducted discussions to gather necessary information regarding the airport’s operational capabilities,” Harjono remarked.

The aircraft involved in the trials included the Casa 212/A-2104, CN 295/A-2905, and Hercules C130/A-1338. The first test was conducted with the Casa 212/A-2104, piloted by Major Susilo Adisaputro, with a crew that included Captain Faizal Fibriyan, First Lieutenant Luthfian Dwi Parendahsyah, and Second Lieutenant M. Tsalis Fahmi.

The following day, the CN 295/A-2905 was tested, with Lieutenant Colonel Fitrianto Ali Ngimron serving as the instructor pilot, accompanied by Captain Ryan Parafoila and co-pilot Lieutenant Kukuh Dedy Riyantoko.

The final trial utilized the Hercules C130/A-1338, a heavy transport aircraft. This test was managed by Pilot Lieutenant Colonel A. Muh Averroes and Co-Pilot Captain Gustine Rossyan.

In addition to the aircraft trials, the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation carried out a comprehensive calibration of all facilities and equipment at Nusantara Airport. Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi emphasized that this process is essential for ensuring flight safety and operational readiness.

Overall, these trials represent a significant milestone in the development of Nusantara Airport, enhancing both military and potential civilian aviation operations in the region.
